Born on: September 19, 1972 in Lomé, Togo | Nationality: Togolese
A key figure of the 1990s “Lomé School” movement, Akpéhou is a committed artist whose work interrogates memory, time, and material transformation. His practice bridges past and present through expressive paintings, monumental sculptures, and rust-infused metal compositions.
He has taken part in multiple exhibitions and workshops in Togo, across West Africa and internationally since 1998.
2018 – Raised to the rank of Officer of the National Order of Merit (Togo) for his contribution to public art and peace-themed murals in Lomé.
Working across painting, sculpture and reclaimed materials, Akpéhou transforms rust into an expressive, spiritual medium. It symbolizes time, memory, injustice, and silent resistance. His art is a poetic, critical, and corrosive reflection on contemporary Africa.
