Artistic Background

A key figure of the 1990s “Lomé School” movement, Akpéhou is a committed artist whose work interrogates memory, time, and material transformation. His practice bridges past and present through expressive paintings, monumental sculptures, and rust-infused metal compositions.

He has taken part in multiple exhibitions and workshops in Togo, across West Africa and internationally since 1998.

Awards & Honors

2018 – Raised to the rank of Officer of the National Order of Merit (Togo) for his contribution to public art and peace-themed murals in Lomé.

Artistic Statement

Working across painting, sculpture and reclaimed materials, Akpéhou transforms rust into an expressive, spiritual medium. It symbolizes time, memory, injustice, and silent resistance. His art is a poetic, critical, and corrosive reflection on contemporary Africa.
